Bruce Perens makes some excellent points about open source licensing in the article How Many Open Source Licenses Do You Need?
The general idea is that there are way to many licenses out there for open source software, and it can be a nightmare when they don’t work with each other. In order to simplify things, Bruce makes a case that only 3 licenses are needed, a completely open license, a copyleft license, and something to bridge the gap. He explains some open source concepts and why you’d want to have open source software. Then he chooses The Apache License 2.0, GPL3, and LGPL3 and explains why.
