I too have been hesitant to fully accept Mate as a viable solution for my clients' applications. I do think there is middle ground to be had betw. Cairngorm and Mate. I have been playing with the idea of making a sample application that uses the Command logic of Cairngorm, the DI of Mate and the Mediators of PureMVC. It's ugly at the moment but you can read a few of hte posts I have written on the subject. I would love to hear your thoughts too.

At the end of the day, it boils down to - learning the framework right, able to deliver the implementation quick, able to solve all/most of the requirements through your framework. Since every project has a varied set of requirements targetting different businesses, it should be comfortable in using any framework that solves their business problem through the framework/code, having atleast one expert of the framework they choose to be on the project and deliver most of the scenarios.. Every framework has its own limitations and nothing is complete or said to be perfect. With Adobe behind cairngorm, the framework got a wider pick than open source which came into the game a little later, but definitely other frameworks are picking up largely in newer projects.

Nice post with natural instincts. I haven't looked at the bugs, but I haven't run into any (that I know of) so I can't complain there. Everything I've seen points to Mate being the next major framework, and hopefully Mate can hit a 1.0 build by Flex 4 release.

I agree, Cairngorm doesn’t like modules but it can be worked with. For me as i'm new in flex and just made some effort to learn Cairngorm, and made some projects with it, and must say there was some learning curve, so why should learn another one if i'm good with this one? there's always gonna be some frameworks and some people claiming that one is better that other, but before do something good with new tools we need to study them carefully.

Hi, quite interesting post you got here, there’s always gonna be a new cool kid on the block, and community will create some buzz about it.<br

But there are still enhancements that could be made(using Cairngorm with modules), and since there have been no commits, there is probably no one working on it. There are a few bugs in the bug base for Cairngorm that seem to be untouched. Also, I'm not suggesting converting Cairngorm projects to Mate, that just sounds like a painful mess. My suggestion is for new projects. A good cut over time is Flex 4.

Good points here about Cairngorm being more stable and not needing code changes.
